I was supposed to post yesterday and I had a great thing all planned for Friday the 13th, which seemed like an appropriate holiday for those of here. But then I read about the Paris attacks and couldn’t find anything lighthearted to say. When I was in college, I studied abroad in Paris and I still have a lot of friends who live there. They’re all safe, but I’m devastated for them. And I’m touched beyond belief at the way the world is rallying around Paris in this time.
But here’s what I have to say here… This has to stop. We need to stop living in a world where this is not only common, but normal, these days.
Facebook has a setting that people in a disaster zone can check in to let their family members know they’re safe. That shouldn’t be something Facebook should need.
Maybe this, an attack in the City of Lights, the City of Love, will make people wake up and realize we need to change the world.
Sadly, I don’t think it will be. I already see people blaming the migrant problem in Europe for this. I saw a tweet that said “Don’t people realize that these are the people the migrants are trying to escape?”
My heart and thoughts are with those in Paris.
